The seforim say that with each act of chesed you perform your soul is elevated to the point that you become a like a new spiritual being. Therefore, each and every one of us should perform at least one act of chesed each day. By giving even one dollar to a day to an organization which cares for our brethren in Israel, you are actively performing an act of chesed daily. You are engaged in chesed on a continuous basis, even while you do other things, and even as you sleep! For the money you have donated will constantly be helping our brothers and sisters in Israel who need our help and support.

Aside from the obvious crucial need of our immigrant brothers and sisters who have no one else to turn to besides Tov Va’Chessed, there is another unique aspect to what we do. The Sefer HaChinuch (Mitzva 431) writes that included in the mitzvah to love a convert (Ger) is also to love and care for a foreigner; someone who finds him or herself in a strange land. A person immigrating to a new country which he did not grow up in does not have friends or relatives to help him. And we are commanded not to ignore him and leave him in his loneliness, but extend him our helping hand, and show him we care. The fact the Torah gave us a separate mitzva just for this, shows how important it is. With your donation, you will have the unique opportunity to perform this special Mitzva, besides for the “regular” great mitzva of chesed.
